CHARITY HAS PLENTY OF WINNERS David Theall St. Petersburg Times November 17, 2007 There were many winners at last weekend's annual Chi Chi Charity Classic at the Chi Chi Rodriguez Club in Clearwater, sponsored by Raymond James Financial. Primarily, they are the students at the Chi Chi Rodriguez Academy and the recent graduates. But on the par-69 course in the two-day event, the scramble winners Sunday were St. Petersburg club designer Bobby Grace, his daughter, Danielle, a member of the golf team at Northside Christian, her 11-year-old brother, Brian, and coach Dave Jackson of the Mustangs. They shot 14-under 55. "It's amazing we did so well," Jackson said. "But we made a lot of 15 to 25 foot putts, and that enabled us to go low." On Monday, Clearwater's Ray Goodman, a former pro golfer, led his defending scramble team to victory with the same score of 55. Jim Hunter and Ray Lopez, volunteers at the Youth Foundation, contributed to the team effort, as did Gil Day of Clearwater Beach. Goodman, director of the County Golf Association, said everyone contributed to the win, during which they hit every green in regulation and made 14 birdies and four pars. "It was a great experience for a growing organization," Goodman said. "We didn't have any eagles and we didn't birdie three of the par-3 holes, but we complemented each other very well." Second-place team members Monday were Jody Rotondo, a friend of Chi Chi's from Illinois, Dave Roberson and Lou Dagnolo Sr. and Lou Dagnolo Jr. Clearwater's Pat Eastman was on the third-place team along with Al Discenza and Dr. Gerry Odweyer. |
